Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about how Salonat works, what makes it different from typical dating apps, and what to expect around privacy and safety. For legal detail, see our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.
-
What is Salonat?
Salonat is a friends-first social app for thoughtful introductions. People you trust host a private “salon” (their circle), can mix and match friends who might not know each other yet, and—when both sides agree—help you meet through structured icebreaker games instead of a cold swipe-only inbox.
-
Is Salonat a dating app?
It can lead to romantic connections, but it is built around friend-led intros and can also be a fun way to expand your social world with people your friends already vouch for. Not every match has to be about dating.
-
How is Salonat different from apps like Tinder or Hinge?
On many dating apps, you mostly browse strangers alone. On Salonat, people in your life participate: they curate their salon, suggest pairings, and (with your consent) get visibility into whether matches were accepted and how icebreakers are going—so introductions feel more like a living room and less like a random queue.
-
What is a salon?
Your salon is your private social space in the app: the friends you invite, the vibe you set (including furnishing and styling your 3D room), and the place where you run mix-and-match for people you believe would get along.
-
What does “Mix and Match” mean?
If you host a salon, you can browse the friends you’ve added across different parts of your life and pair two people you think would vibe. They each get a notification that you suggested the match—nothing moves forward unless they both opt in.
-
What happens after two people are matched?
If both accept, they enter icebreaker games: four short rounds where a little more about each other is revealed each time (first name, your mutual friend’s impression, voice notes, then a full profile unlock). If someone declines, the games do not start.
-
Do I stay anonymous during icebreakers?
Early rounds are deliberately light-touch (for example first name only, then context from your mutual friend, then voice). The last round unlocks full profiles so you both know who you are before taking things further outside the flow the app provides.
-
Can my friends see my matches or messages?
Salonat is built so hosts can see high-level progress on matches they suggested (for example whether invites were accepted and how games are going)—so your circle can cheer you on. What exactly is visible to whom follows the in-app rules and your settings; see the Privacy Policy for categories of data and sharing.
-
Do I need an invite to join?
Salonat is oriented around people you know: someone adds you to their salon or you start your own and invite friends. That keeps the graph closer to real trust than an open public feed.
-
Is Salonat free?
The product is free to download. If we introduce optional paid features later, we will describe them clearly in the app and in these pages before they apply to you.
-
What platforms is Salonat on?
We ship for iOS and Android. Store links on the marketing site update when each build is ready for release.
-
Why does the app ask for contacts or photos?
Contacts (if offered) are only to help you invite people you already know—similar to other social apps— and you can revoke access in system settings. Photos support your profile and salon experience. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
-
Where does my data live?
Account, salon room layout, matches, icebreaker activity, and notifications are stored on secure servers (not only on your phone) so friends see consistent rooms and match state. Session tokens may live on your device until you log out. Media uploads may use cloud object storage in production.
-
How do I delete my account or ask for my data?
Email hello@salonat.app from the address associated with your account and tell us what you need (export, correction, or deletion). We will respond subject to legal retention requirements described in the Privacy Policy.
-
Is Salonat for teens?
Salonat is intended for adults in line with the age threshold in our Terms and Privacy Policy. We do not knowingly collect data from children below that threshold.
-
How should I stay safe when meeting someone new?
Even with friend introductions, use the same care you would offline: meet in public first, tell someone where you are, and trust your instincts. If someone behaves badly in the app, use in-app reporting (when available) or contact hello@salonat.app with specifics so we can review.
-
Who builds Salonat?
Salonat is an independent product under active development. For partnerships, press, or support, use hello@salonat.app.
